Postponing Update To Next Week

I'm sorry for the late notice but we won't have an update for the plugin this week due to some intense work schedule. We will have the usual weekend update next week and we keep updating the build server as usual.

We intend to write a more thorough blog post and do some tutorial work over the week, hopefully we will have time to cover everything and still move ahead with all the features.

In the meantime check out this small teaser of a new third party application coming soon in Codename One from the guys at Momentoro. More on that application and some other applications coming through the pipeline soon.

New Kitchen Sink Demo

I've just added a new kitchen sink demo to SVN and shot the video above (notice delays are due to the shooting not the UI, its actually faster on the device). The demo is entirely hand coded without using the GUI builder to acomodate the anti-gui-builder crowd (of which I am a former member).

The demo shows off some of the newer features landing in the upcoming version of Codename One including Component Morphing, unlayout animations and much more.

I will try to write tutorials about each feature presented in the demo when I get the chance to do that, I apologize that we don't document enough/write tutorials. It is a constant struggle to pick the next task ahead and coding is (to me) much easier than writing a tutorial or shooting a screencast... (and its more fun, loads of excitement).

After The Typical Rough Start Codename One Is Now In Public Beta

Rough night last night with a broken build of the NetBeans plugin as part of the first release of the Codename One public beta. Anyway, with that out the way you are welcome to try out the first public beta and let us know what you think in the discussion forum.

Codename One is still under heavy development and changing weekly, so keep updated. While we were able to create an update center for Eclipse this just doesn't work on NetBeans, if you are an expert in that field and are willing to help us get an update center for NB please drop us a line.

Broken NetBeans Plugin

Well, a couple of hours after going live with the beta turns out we had a major regression in the NetBeans plugin. Ugh, if you downloaded your plugin and it doesn't create a new project this is now fixed.

iPadHD (iPad 3) support In Codename One

While I don't have that much time for a full blog post with the initial public release coming out this week I do have some small bit to share.

We already support iPad 3 (or iPadHD) even before Apple actually announces it. We already have a skin file in the SVN for those who have access to our SVN (it will be made public with the release).

iPad 3 support "just works" I just scaled the existing iPad skin to double the size and increased the font size to iPhone 4 sizes. Assuming the iPadHD is to the iPad as the iPhone 4 was to iPhone 3GS this should work just fine.

Even if rumors about things such as removing the home button are true, this is mostly irrelevant to the device simulator. Anyway, getting this out so early is surely a good sign for how fast we can keep up with native vendors technologies...
